What is the simplest way to describe Final Roadmap?
Final Roadmap is an electronic system that addresses almost all aspects of the end of life. It is your guide, toolkit and secure vault for documenting your wishes in the event you cannot speak for yourself. The sections and subsections contain questionnaires, forms, examples, etc. which relate to particular topics, e.g. healthcare*, funeral arrangements, financial considerations*. The tools help you thoughtfully consider end of life in a relaxed and confident manner, according to your schedule and comfort level. You can also place existing documents into your Final Roadmap Lockbox.
You decide which sections, subsections or forms you wish to use, how you wish to use them and who else, if anyone, can access the information.

Who needs Final Roadmap?
Everyone 18 years old and over should have Final Roadmap. It is for healthy people as well as the elderly and those with illness and can be changed and supplemented throughout life as views, family situations and relationships evolve.
Many people do not think about end of life decisions until they or someone close to them becomes ill or dies suddenly. That’s fine, Final Roadmap can be used whenever you want to consider a time when you may not be able to speak for yourself.

Does Final Roadmap allow insertion of my existing documents?
Absolutely. If you already have a will, trust, financial statements, powers of attorney, etc. you can place the documents in your Final Roadmap. If you do not have these documents and want them, there are resources listed and websites links embedded in various places. Likewise, you can deposit photos and letters for loved ones in your Final Roadmap document set.

Can I easily share my contents with others before I die?
Yes and we encourage you to do so because much of the reason death is so poorly handled by our society is because individual wishes are not known at the time of death. If you choose not to communicate your wishes before death, please direct someone to your Final Roadmap document set to be accessed upon your death.
Final Roadmap allows you to send various contents to others of your choice at any time, including after your death through an individual whom you designate. In addition, you can allow others secure access to see, but not alter, some or all of your documents and you will know any time they have been viewed.
You are in complete control. These are your documents and you dictate their use as well as their contents.

What is a Designee?
A Designee is simply someone you designate/allow to have access to one or more of the components of your Final Roadmap. You can have multiple Designees and they can include anyone you choose, for example loved ones and/or professional advisors (e.g. medical professionals, attorneys). A Designee will only be permitted to view what you have allowed, they will have no ability to change any of your content. Furthermore, you will receive an email letting you know anytime a Designee views your information.

Can I share my Final Roadmap contents with others before and/or after I die?
Of course – remember, these are your documents and they are very secure as well as under your control. Final Roadmap is set up for you to allow access to anyone you choose, i.e. loved one, professional advisors, clergy, etc. Access is very secure: Final Roadmap has been constructed such that your Designee(s) may read but not alter the specific document(s) to which you allow him/her access and there is an electronic trail for you any time any designee goes into your Final Roadmap account.

Will my Final Roadmap contain directives for my health care?
Yes, if you place them into your Lockbox. An example of this is POLST (Physician Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment). This is a document that is an actual physician order. It is one way to articulate what medical interventions you do and do not want at the end of life. Other examples include advance directives, powers of attorney for healthcare and living wills.

Can the people who work at Final Roadmap access my documents?
No. Final Roadmap has multiple levels of security which prevent anyone you do not expressly allow, including us, from seeing your Final Roadmap. Therefore, it is very important that you either print your documents or allow specified others to have electronic access. It is easy to do this and can be done both per document and per designee. In other words, you decide precisely who can see what. In addition, you receive an email alert every time one of your designees goes into your Final Roadmap.
Of course, Final Roadmap makes no demands. It is your tool and can be used only to generate conversation. There are no requirements.

Can you describe the technical aspects of Final Roadmap’s security? Do the parameters also apply to documents I place in my Final Roadmap (e.g. a scan of my will?)

Does Final Roadmap provide instructions for ending life?
No. Final Roadmap does not in any way assist with ending one’s own life. It is a document set completed by the purchaser.

What if finalroadmap.com goes out of business?
Obviously we hope it doesn’t happen, but as advocates of planning and preparation have accounted for that possibility. Our web hosting including all security, storage, and communication functionalities are paid out one year in advance on a monthly basis, e.g. a payment made in December of 2028 pays for December 2029. We have made this unusual arrangement with americaneagle.com so we could assure all or our members that in the event the business shuts down, members will be notified immediately and have one full year to download, email, migrate and/or print all of the contents of their Final Roadmap. No one should need or even want that much time, but it is part of our absolute commitment to our members’ peace of mind.
Of course, if a closure announcement is made, while members will still have full access and utility for one year, no new members will be accepted.
There is great value to being able access and share your wishes through the website but even if we go under you still will have considered your options, thought about what you want and recorded your wishes on the 28 forms provided. Each of those forms can be printed and downloaded to your personal device. That is well worth the purchase price to your family and loved ones.
